Today, as millions of gaming publications and gamers alike praise the accomplishments of Sony/Guerrilla Games latest software phenominon in KILLZONE 2, Microsoft has also added their own praise and insight into things which according to them will surpass Sonys latest accomplishment.

According to GameGuru, future Microsoft Xbox360 exclusives will surpass KILLZONE 2 as stated by Microsoft;

“We congratulate Sony and Guerrilla Games for their efforts with KILLZONE 2, however this is only the beginning of a new wave. The current technology employed for certain unannounced Xbox 360 exclusives far surpasses what gamers have seen in any game so far. Gears of War was the beginning of this technological benchmark when released on the 360 and this lineage will be carried forward in the following months with exclusives that shall stand for a new definition of gaming experience and provide stiff competition for the opposition.”

While Microsoft clearly acknowledges that KILLZONE 2 is the technological standard today, it is obvious they are not going to surrender easily to Sony’s latest and greatest hardware achievements.   To claim that there are unannounced 360 exclusives which will far surpass what gamers have seen in any game today ala KILLZONE 2 just 3 days after it’s release is an extremely bold statement. To state “far exceeds” is verbally stating that there are actually 360 exclusives in the making that far exceed the E3 2005 CG-render of KILLZONE 2 - WOW!

As a gamer first I personally hope this to be true seeing as you can never have enough OMG(Oh My God!) gaming experiences. However, as a skeptic I have to see it before I can believe it. Can the 360 really produce a game that far excceeds what gamers are seeing today?

Well, Microsoft definitely believes they can and enlight of the Playstation 3 2009 exclusive line-up, Microsoft definitely has to try.

    It does seem a bit interesting seeing as KILLZONE 2 released just 3 days ago and is receiving astronomical praise from the media and the public and in response to it all Microsoft makes this publicly bold claim. It appears Microsoft is letting the world know that they are still in the gaming business. I personally don’t want to hate on Microsoft however, it really sounds like a jealous or desperate kid trying get attention by saying “Look at me, look at me!”, “I can do it to” but unfortunately has nothing to support this claim. Also to state “Far exceeds” is extremely reckless. In this case I believe silence is the best policy. If there truly are games in development for the 360 that far exceeds KILLZONE 2 I believe they should let those games do the talking, trust me, the gamers will respond. As it is today any 360 exclusive that comes out will now be compared to KILLZONE 2 regardless of the genre. Now people especially PS3 fanboys will verbally destroy the 360 all over the net all year if 360 exclusives don’t match up. By making this claim you now put yourself up against the wall. Do I think the 360 can far exceed what we see from KILLZONE 2? Well I hope so for Microsoft’s sake.

    Here is the full article and as you read no where in the article does Microsoft say KillZone 2 is better then Gears of War 2. I really think it was a classy move by Microsoft to acknowledge a job well done by Sony while at the same time letting people know that Gear of War 2 AND KillZone 2 is just the start of things to come. See for yourself.

    Killzone 2 is good, very good. It’s not perfect, as a lot of the commenters on GAMER have picked up on, but the majority of reviewers, including our very own Mike Ferro, think it’s very close to being so. The question is, has it raised the bar for games, not just on the PS3, but every console and even the PC?

    The biggest area of success for Killzone 2 has to be in the graphics department - the visuals are simply stunning throughout. Again, they aren’t perfect, and some have argued that Crysis on the PC and even Gears of War 2 on the Xbox 360 look better. I’m not so sure. I’ve certainly never been as impressed with how good looking a game is.

    The story and setting of Killzone is strong, but I’ve experienced stronger. As an experience, being in the middle of a raging battle is very immersive, but there are times when it all feels a little by-the-numbers.

    The single-player campaign is actually quite short, shorter than I would have expected from a state-of-the-art first-person shooter. But there is a decent replayability factor. Online is a different story though, with most people regarding this as the most fun they’ve had in multiplayer since Call of Duty 4 was first released.

    Microsoft, it seems, is also impressed, with a spokesman congratulating the people at Sony and Guerilla Games on Killzone 2. However, talking to Game Guru, the MS spokesman also thinks there’s more to come, with some forthcoming Xbox 360 exclusives set to overshadow Killzone 2.

    We congratulate Sony and Guerilla Games for their effort with Killzone 2, however this is only the beginning of a new wave. The current technology employed for certain unannounced Xbox 360 exclusives far surpasses what gamers have seen in any game so far. Gears of War was the beginning of this technological benchmark when released on the 360 and this lineage will be carried forward in the following months with exclusives that shall stand for a new definition of gaming experience and provide stiff competition for the opposition.

    You have to assume Microsoft is talking about graphics, although there isn’t actually a mention of this being the case. Maybe MS is more thinking along the lines of games being immersive entertainment, or even that some of the exclusives on the way will exceed Killzone 2’s multiplayer goodness? It does seem that Microsoft is admitting Killzone 2 is head and shoulders above every other game though, with the possible exception of Gears of War 2.

    So, to answer the question in the first paragraph, yes, Killzone 2 has raised the bar, but only in two areas - graphics and online multiplayer. And even then, there’s a real possibility that both of these elements could be bettered by new games just around the corner.

    Enjoy the glory of Killzone 2 while it lasts because as the industry dictates, the next big thing is just around the corner.

    Shadowolf you are good at misinterpreting what people say and what you read. Amazing!!!

  7. Shadowolf Said,

    With all things there will always be the next best thing and Microsoft believes that they will be able to offer that next best ‘thing’ in their unannounced 360 exclusives. “Misinterpretation”, I don’t think so. Let look at what was stated by Microsoft;

    “We congratulate Sony and Guerrilla Games for their efforts with KILLZONE 2, however this is only the beginning of a new wave. The current technology employed for certain unannounced Xbox 360 exclusives far surpasses what gamers have seen in any game so far.”

    (MS giving Sony/Guerrilla credit and acknowledging KZ2 as the new wave of technological advances, then MS after acknowledging the obvious comes back with but we will do it better in the future)

    “Gears of War was the beginning of this technological benchmark when released on the 360 and this lineage will be carried forward in the following months with exclusives that shall stand for a new definition of gaming experience and provide stiff competition for the opposition.”

    (After acknowledging Sony/Guerrilla on KZ2 and stating it is a new wave of future advances, they state that it started with Gears of War (note that they did not say Gears of War 2) and finishes up by stating the same thing as before but a little differently, no “far exceeds” remarks but “provides stiff competition for the opposition (Sony)”

    I believe I fully understand where Microsoft is coming from. So yes they indirectly stated that KZ2 is the current standard of a wave of advances we should be seeing in the coming months.
