NBA LIVE ‘09 VS. NBA 2K9: CLASH OF THE TITANS!

If you’re a sports fan and gamer (like myself), I am pretty certain that you have been involved in the great debate on which is better: NBA Live 09 or NBA 2K9? EA and 2K sports have really put there best foot forward to produce 2 powerhouses, which ultimately makes it difficult to decide on which is better. Well today is your lucky day! Thanks to the good people here at psthevolution.com, only one game will be crowned as the best basketball game. Before a champion is crowned, let us first break down each game.
NBA LIVE:
Beginning in the mid 90s (post NBA Jam era), NBA Live has without a doubt the best NBA video game franchise thus far. This was no easy task for the Live franchise, having survived a major competitor, such as NBA shootout.
NBA live ’09 is best known for their amazing graphics, especially the realistic physical attributes of each player. Another good feature is the DNA feature; this brings the current player action to the system game play, which enhances the games’ realism by a substantial amount.
Unfortunately, all of these positive features are overshadowed by the games lackluster game play. I am almost certain that the owner of the Detroit Lions and the main person who developed Live are one in the same. Attempting to play defense on this game is non existent. Even though the graphics are really good the players lack the charisma and swagger of these NBA stars. In addition, is it me or does the crowd looks the same every year? (WAKE UP EA SPORTS, GAMERS DO GLANCE AT THE CROWD ONCE IN A WHILE!!!)
NBA 2K9
Surfacing in 2000, NBA 2K has always (in my opinion) been a force to be reckoned with. Any game that would put Allen Iverson on the cover of the First few games has made it a point that they are the ANSWER to the competition (PUN INTENDED!).
Overall, NBA 2K9 is a great game, but the best feature on the game that stands out is the player control. For example, when trying to lock down a player on defense you can just hold down one of the top buttons and the defensive player will lock onto his man. This causes the gamers to tap into their inner Phil Jackson to find more creative ways to score.
Graphically, 2k9 is the Mona Lisa of the 21st century (yes I said it!). For the next game, instead of calling it NBA 2K10 it should be called “The Flu 2K10” because the graphics are sick!!!!!!!!! From the Pre-game shoot around, to the annoying mascot pestering the opposition, for a sports game this is graphically on another lev…planet.
OVERALL:
Despite any of the criticisms of NBA Live, both games are very good investments, nevertheless, for the members of Playstation ThEvolution our top dog would have to be NBA 2K9.
Now before all of you Live fans posse up and attempt to decapitate me, just hear me out. 2K sports has been doing there thing for the last few years but they often go unrecognized due to the notoriety and longevity of EA sports (which is understandable). Nevertheless, NBA 2K9 is really the “Boss of all Bosses” of basketball games and I would not be surprised to see EA sports Bo guard the NBA license to make games just like they did the NFL. What are your thoughts? Which game do you prefer?

2K9 is hands down the best NBA game on the planet. I can remember when 2K came out on the Sega Dreamcast. But u took us on a blast from the past with yo ref. to NBA Jams.

I actually want to start this comment by saying I’m in no form at all biased to the subject of which is better Live or 2K9. I do want to express deep emotions that the facts of this argument weren’t presented in the correct format; therefore, I feel the need bring the truth like Alex Haley himself would have done in his time.
First of lets compare/contrast the non-opinionated factors of which is better Live (Obama) or 2K9 (McCain)! Sorry for the use of presidential candidates, but to me, comparing these two games is like comparing who is the better option for the Commander In Chief position…and the American people have proved that already! So I will do the same!
I will be upfront and honest in saying that I’m a TRUE Sports Fan but not a TRUE Gamer. I do know sports and have played overseas as well, so I consider myself as an inside expert to the sport of basketball. Live has captured the essence of REAL game play with not only its “amazing graphics” and “realistic physical attributes, but it has implemented real life game play. Moves are produce by the controller and not by a push of a button. Positioning on the court by the player is relevant of his own personal attributes. Handling of the PILL or ROCK has its own “swagger and charisma” that even Stevie Wonder can recognize who is breaking ankles or receiving the no look pass. Lets move on to the multiple defense/offense schemes that are offered on Live…to make a long story short - ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! (I actually feel like Bill Russell when I play, because now I have the true sense of being not only a player but a coach as well)*The DNA factor will be saved at a later date…no need to present any further witnesses at this time, your honor!*
Yes, 2K9 my be graphically better when looking at the crowds and mascots “like mona lisa” …yes, 2K9 player control can be a little easier for the “21st Century” gamers…BUT in all reality, if you want the best arcade basketball game, the “YES WE CAN” settle for NBA 2K9. BUT if we want the realistic fundamentals of the game of Basket Ball that Dr. James Naismith founded for us ‘Sports Fans’ we definitely have to go to the founder of basketball gamers EA Sports…NBA LIVE 09!!!

We can go back in forth on which is better and I can see that words don’t convince you, we should let the numbers do the talkin’.
RATING (ACCORDING TO IGN):
NBA LIVE ‘09 = 6.5
NBA 2K9 = 8.5
Please feel free to check IGN yourself and I challenge you to find any other credible source that says Live is better rated and sold more, I gurantee you can’t.

I figured you would go there with statistical data but I thought you would use more substance on your rebutles-(Xbox has sold more units but does that make them better than PS3!?!)…Obviously this is a hard fought battle inwhich nobody is the winner. I guess we should just thank the ‘Gamer World’ of producing two format basketball games to fit everyone’s desires! You play your 2K9′er, while I will hold down the fort for US Live’rs!

We both have our own opinions on which game is better but in order to prove to you that 2k9 is killin live, the numbers had to do the talkin’. Just ask yourself why is live rated only at 6.5? I really don’t think live is a terrible game, I just think 2k9 is so great and it makes Live look like NBA street.
Oh yea, EA made that game too. I guess you can’t win for losing lol

May I interject my thoughts on the topic at hand? Thank you! There have been some interesting comments about the two basketball guggernauts NBA Live 09 and 2k9. My personal opinion is that Live is ok and 2K9 is spectacular both in game play and it is a visual masterpiece. Yo Scottymac that was a very nice comparsion “Live (Obama) or 2K9 (McCain)!” Well if that is the case then I demand a recount because the voting was fixed. It is nothing wrong with saying Live was the best until 2k b-ball stepped on the scene. This is a videogame homicide and we all know who got murder(LIVE09). The only way EA’s Live can dominate again is by buying the rights to the league. U should pack yo bags and get on the 2k9 train before it leaves the station and buys the rights to the NBA. LOL!! Then u can say that u were already on the the championship team. Stats don’t lie, so I’ll just stick with the facts. NBA 2K9!!!
