NPD US Analysis: PS3 Standing Strong Despite Price
On March - 20 - 2009

Well the NPD verdict is out and yet again the Playstation 3 manages to not only remain popular in the US, it also demonstrates that despite it’s current price point, US gamers are certainly enjoying it’s software offerings as well.
Based soley on a US February analysis, NPD has reported that the Playstation 3 has generated 276,000 console sales while generating 403,000 sold copies of Street Fighter 4 and 323,000 copies sold of KILLZONE 2 which we might add was on the market for only 2 days in Feb. Very impressive indeed!
Eventhough console sales represent a year-on-year drop for Sony, this rather small decrease is based only on four thousand units. What is important to note is; while the Playstation 3 has ran this marathon currently in third place, there has not been any major signs of distancing from it’s nearest competitor. Priced $200 more than the Xbox 360, the Playstation 3 has remained on heels of the competitor throughout and has refused to give up too much ground in this console race. Though some have stated that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 will remain dominate, it appears to be quite obvious that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is holding on to it’s current marketshare by a very thin thread. As reported by NPD, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 reported 391,000 consoles sold in February. At a glance one might speculate that this is doom and gloom for the Playstation 3, but quite the contrary. In console sales, hardware pricing is everything yet despite the higher reported consoles sold by the Xbox 360, Sony’s Playstation 3 is seriously tugging at the marketshare.
On the software front again Sony’s Playstation 3 is flexing it’s muscle. One only has to look at the software sales of KILLZONE 2 and Street Fighter 4 to see the Playstation 3 influence. NPD’s US February figures for KILLZONE 2 and Street Fighter 4 across both platforms;
- KILLZONE 2 (PS3) - 323,000 (2 day figures)
- STREET FIGHTER IV (360) - 446,000
- STREET FIGHTER IV (PS3) - 403, 000
By looking at these numbers for February it is clear the Playstation 3 is pushing major software. KILLZONE 2, which launched Feb 27th saw impressive numbers in only two days for the month of February. Nevertheless, Street Fighter 4 sales on the Playstation 3 almost mirrors the competition. Again, very impressive despite it’s current market position.
More recently many developers have been asking for Sony to drop their current price of the Playstation 3 in order to drive console sales and eventually software sales. While this does seem like a very likely scenario it appears Sony is methodically waiting for the right time and that time doesn’t look good for the competition.
Here are the current NPD US hardware & software sale figures for February
FEBRUARY NPD HARDWARE
- NINTENDO Wii - 753,000
- NINTENDO DS - 588,000
- XBOX 360 - 391,000
- PLAYSTATION 3 - 276,000
- PSP - 199,000
- PS2 - 131,000
FEBRUARY NPD TOP 10 SOFTWARE
- Wii FIT - 644,000
- STREET FIGHTER IV (360) - 446,000
- STREET FIGHTER IV (PS3) - 403, 000
- Wii PLAY - 386,000
- KILLZONE 2 - 323,000
- MARIO KART Wii - 263,000
- CALL OF DUTY: WORLD AT WAR (360) - 193,000
- MARIO KART DS - 145,000
- NEW SUPER MARIO BROS DS - 144,000
- GUITAR HERO: WORLD TOUR (Wii) - 136,000

You, my friend are the ultimate fanboy and i’m afraid there is no hope for you. You really should get into politics or something that needs your serious skills at turd shining. You can feed someone a spoonful of BS and they would love it. Do you realize what you are saying in your ‘report’? The 360 outsold the PS3 and had no major title released for the system in Feb!!! Sony had that month all to themselves and still could not out sale the 360 even with the exclusive that was suppose to rock the foundations of the video game industry!!! This is utter failure for Sony. You can make it sound like a moral victory but it clearly is not. Also, the fact remains-all the games listed sold more on the 360. What’s going to happen next month? DO you think KillZone 2 will out sale Res 5??? I told you this way back when and it’s exactly how i predicted it- Street Fighter out sold KillZone when you said it would not. Call of Duty World at War is still out selling on the 360. I’m done. You were wolfing awfully loud about KillZone 2 and, as we see, it has done nothing. Blockbuster is not a title you give a game, it’s a title that is earned and is reflected in sales numbers, remember that.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 4:04 am
If we were to remember that Lost and Damned isn’t on that software list (possibly be in the number 2 spot and that it most probably didn’t sell any systems), the whole month comes into prospective. Sony need to up there game some how, if Killzone 2 hasn’t done it (something which almost had me buy the system till I realised I had done it all before) then I don’t think anything this year will. The longer this goes up the more people don’t see a point in buying the PS3, the bigger the 360’s lead will become.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 4:17 am
@ eman3d
Killzone2 was launched 26/27 Fev… the month ends at 28 Fev…
The number ONLY REFLECT 2 DAYS OF SALES YOU STUPID IGNORANT!

$199 - Interesting
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 4:22 am
Dcoz an eventual price drop will definitely change the game however currently Sony is enjoying this time of profit as it has finally come. The price is around the corner.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 4:30 am
@ Dcoz and @ MK
You truly understand my point man! I told my boy Shadowolf that KillZone 2 is NOT all that. It’s a good game but not what a lot of PS3 fanboys make it out to be. It’s like you said- You realized you already done that. I said almost the exact thing to Shadowolf. KillZone 2 does not introduce ANYTHING NEW!!! Anybody with eyes can see that. And to whoever MK is, do you realize Gears 2 sold over 1.4 million copies in ONE DAY???!!!! Now i won’t stoop to your level and call you out of your name, although i am very tempted, it proves a point- If KillZone 2 was as good as advertised more people would have bought the game on launch. Sony let reviewers hype the game up for a full month!!!! You guys were on this site talking about a million preorders!! Where did they all go??? Face it Sony problems are bigger then you think but you choose to stay in denial which is quite funny.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 4:34 am
@ Shadowolf
Did you say PROFIT???!!! PROFIT??? How, where, when. hardware does NOT generate profit. It was reported just the other day that Sony laid off more people and reported there loss to shareholders and at my job people were laid off too. So i ask again what PROFIT??? Where do you get your info?
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 4:37 am
Shadowolf I hope that’s the case, because I’m really looking forward to a new ICO game, but I don’t know if that alone can sell me the system and trust me I love ICO. The price point really isn’t the problem for me; it’s the lack of backward compatibility and games which make the system worth owning. I borrowed a PS3 of a friend to complete MGS4, a game which to me has very little replay value. I still have the PS3, but it’s just sitting there because I have nothing I want to play on it. I fell into the hype and was moments away from buying Killzone 2 until I played the demo, the graphics are amazing, but I have to say I preferred the gameplay of FEAR 2 over this.
Which then leaves me wondering had I not had a 360 for the past few years, I would have missed a lot of excellent games. What have PS3 owners, without a 360, been playing for the first two years of it’s life?
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 4:45 am
Well done Sony. Another great week in Japan also. Looking forward to a price drop to spice things up in the US.
Do not underestimate the power of Playstation.

Just to inform those who are uninformed here is the profit or lack there of that Sony is ‘enjoying’:
Sony freezes staff wages, lowers bonuses [Update]
by Jem Alexander { 20 hours ago }
According to Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Sony Corporation (of which Sony Computer Entertainment is a part) has said that it is freezing staff wages across the board, in order to combat the economic crisis. The freeze will occur during the fiscal year starting April 2009. In an attempt to further cut costs, bonuses will also be cut from six months worth of pay to four months. Managers will be hit even harder, with annual compensation cut from between 10% and 20% and bonuses snipped by between 35% and 40%.
The company is expected to announce a loss of $2.65 billion for the current year. Hopefully, these substantial cost reductions will allow Sony to stay in the black in FY 2009. We’re sure Sony’s many employees will agree that having their wages frozen isn’t that bad, given the alternative.
Update: SCEE adds that its employees are unaffected by this announcement.
Again- a loss of $2.65 billion…. that does not sound like profit to me.

Yo Dcoz, you are so on point! Shadowolf might think we are brothers! You echoe the very same thoughts i have been feeling and explaining to Shadow. I work for Sony so i have a serious vested interest in the company then most folks because of obvious reasons. Sony is not doing great and most of these guys are passionate fans of the system and tend to look away from the PS3 flaws as well as what the competition is doing to beat Sony.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 4:51 am
LOL! Eman3d, despite the fact that the Playstation brand constitutes the largest percentage share for Sony, Sony does constitute of other well known brands and entities. Lay-offs where you work are not gaming related. You cannot name one in-house Sony gaming developer that has been stripped. Decreased manufacturing cost were implemented 4th qtr 2008 (link) because of this Sony has broken even on their PS3 as of lately and software sale have begun to turn a significant profit.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 4:52 am
@ Dcoz
Good point about the Lost and the Damned. You probably won’t get many replies because you talk the truth and support it with good facts which hurts for PS3 owners. Sony needs to drop the price if they wish to make some real noise or else it’s a done deal. Whats even funnier is Sony’s claim that the PS3 is here for a 10 year cycle!!! Are they serious? New systems from Nintendo and Microsoft will be out by 2012!! What is Sony thinking.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:00 am
@ Shadowolf
So what you are saying is that the PS3 is it’s own entity. The PS3 earnings are not added up with Sony as a whole?? If thats what you are thinking….
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:02 am
To be honest eman3d, I use to hate Microsoft (like most people, not knowing why when most of us are using something from them everyday). But I have to hand it to them Xbox was a great machine, just wasn’t given the chance which I know Microsoft knew it wouldn’t have. They put it out there just to let you know what game consoles could do. The 360, as a console, has beaten almost all odds and come out on top (minus the Wii). They have taken so much market share this gen that it’s going to be very hard, if not impossible to get it back.
I love Sony, but I do feel they deserve this. Imagine there was no 360, this gen would have been pointless maybe we would all still be playing PS2. Microsoft has made so many outstanding chances since they enter the market that it is hard to fault them as a company. Comparing this to the amount of times Sony has lied to us (twin HDMI ports anyone).
Again I would love to see Sony back in the game and at least making some money out of this, but I have to say it won’t be from me until they offer something I can’t do without e.g. something like Mass Effect (best game this gen).
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:03 am
Eman3d if history has taught us anything, it has taught us that Sony knows how to preserve a console for the long haul. The PS2 sold 131,000 console in Feb, yet it launched in Oct, 2000. The PS3 is on it’s way.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:05 am
@ eman3d
Why am I a fanboy, because I told you a fact?
I don’t give a shit if Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo “die”, I just don’t like spoiled little brats like you acting as if you understand this industry.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:11 am
The only reason I could imagine Sony keeping the PS2 on shelf and not removing it and adding backward compatibility to the PS3 is because Microsoft would have taken those 131,000 on price alone. As it turns out I am more likely to buy a PS2 again (sold mine years ago, but have some games I would like to play again, did I tell you I loved ICO) than a PS3. Which worry’s me, because I’m definitely buying a Xbox 1.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:14 am
definitely not buying a xbox 1 sorry.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:15 am
@Dcoz
You are feelin’ what i am feelin’ When you really look at it Sony lucked up. When they made the PS1 it was by luck, they had no intention on making a video game system until Nintendo walked away thus the PS1 was born. Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE MY PS1. It was a historical machine that opened a brand new door. Ultimately the PS2 came of age and rode the success of the PS1 by way of 3rd party developers!!!! This is how Sony became lazy. With so many 3rd party developers they did not need to make games, the games were made for them!!!! It’s a known fact that when you get lazy and full of yourself you open yourself up for attack and that’s when Microsoft took advantage. Microsoft was hungrier and more focused. They did not have every 3rd party developer making games for them, they had to do it themselves which meant they had to try harder! and they did. Meanwhile Sony got fatter and more lazy. Sony had no competition during the era of the PS2 until the Xbox dropped and a company with a bankroll thats fatter then Sony got in the game and is clearly on a mission. Sony, right now, is showing they can not handle competition.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:16 am
@ MK,
First off , you do not know me, and secondly i have no reason to lie on the freakin’ internet. And lastly, i am apart of this industry and i have people who can back me up on that. If you don’t believe me ask Shadowolf. I have no need to pretend or make things up and i am probably old enough to be your freakin’ father!!!
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:21 am
Do you know what eman3d, I never thought of it that way and you might be 100% right. They had no competition and now competition is throwing punches left, right and center they don’t seem to know how to react. Wow you made me look at PS1 and PS2 in a completely new light, Sony didn’t really have much to do with it’s success, it was the 3rd parties. If you remove them both PS1 and PS2 would of have little to offer as opposed to the N64, Dreamcast ect.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:23 am
@ Shadowolf
If history has shown us something its that Sony has fumbled big time in their existence and lost a whole market to a competitor thats raking in big money because of Sony’s arrogance. I will let you figure out what company that is. Also, you know good and well how fast technology moves, by 2012 the PS3 will be exactly what the PS2 is today- a third world video game system. I can see you playing your PS3 in 2012 while everyone is going crazy over the next Xbox and Nintendo.LOL
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:25 am
eman3d why people reply to people who go off topic and start personally attacking others I will never understand. Simply he has run out of info to discuss and should be left there with him.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:26 am
So true eman3d, lol. In 2012 if 360 is my primary console still, then there must be something wrong in the bank.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:28 am
@ Dcoz
EXACTLY!!!
See man, these companies are ran by humans and humans make mistakes,it’s just when you are a fan you tend to not acknowledge the mistakes but in the end numbers do not lie. Sony use to the KING and now look at them, that says it all. That’s why PS3 fans are sour and alway defending everything and anything Sony does. When i was much younger there was a company that was bigger then Sony when it came to video games- ATARI, look what happened to them.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:29 am
Ah man why mention ATARI like that. You want to remember them for what they were.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:31 am
Ppl don´t have money for the PS3 and all we have to do is to realize that the PS3 isn´t for everybody in the world like the 360 is its like i say MERCEDES or BUGGATI should lower price cause ppl will only buy Toyota corola if they don´t low the price… PS3 its not for everyone for now maybe in the future will be…
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:33 am
Sony is not going anywhere and the Playstation brand is not leaving. What will happen is simply called a learning lesson. Sony will lick it’s wounds and understand what NOT to do the next time around. They will understand that being arrogant is not the way to go. This experience will make Sony humble and hungry once more and the PS4 will be a beast. Again, humans make mistakes and can get cocky. i said it all along- Sony needs to eat a slice of humble pie.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:35 am
I’m sure the price isn’t an issue for everyone especially gamers such as myself. I have owned pretty much every console more or less simultaneously. It comes down to value. You pay the extra premium and don’t get any extra “game” for your money. No point of the oh it’s got Wireless, I don’t need it, but by the way so does my £100 laptop. Free PSN, I’ve seen the reason why it’s free, it would be a rip off to be any more than that. Blu-ray, again another thing I don’t need and probably never will since I stream all my movies. The difference I can see with the PS3 and 360 is build quality, but to be honest, how many of us stare at our consoles rather than play them?
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:41 am
@ Edito
You are right and that’s not good business. Video games are not for the so called ‘elite’ Video games are suppose to be for EVERYONE and should not be kept away because of price. Even still, the PS3 is not a focused machine. It’s trying to be too many things!!! I can play Blu Ray which means you have to go buy an HD TV to enjoy me which means you will have to spend about $1400 more dollars. Oh and by the way, if you want to watch Blu-Ray that will cost you $30 dollars a pop and finally if you want to play games, i forgot i can play games, that will cost you another $64 a pop. Now i don’t know about you guys but i just wanted to by a video game system and not worry about investing in an HD TV and Blu-Ray until I AM READY!!!!
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 5:43 am
@ Dcoz
It was so cool to finally chat with someone who has the same viewpoint about the condition of the PS3 and how Sony is missing the mark. If you’d like, hit me up on Xbox Live. My handle is E STONE.
It’s time for me to crash, i just got home from work.
Be cool.

@ emand3d
If you’re old enough to be my father than you must be really really old,and if you are that “mature” than why be ranting on Internet like a kid?
It’s funny to read your comments because you speak as you have a pleasure by Sony being in a “supposed” bad situation and arrogant??! LOL
Let’s quote Mr.Greenberg from Microsoft:
“”You can’t underestimate that we’re half the price of the PS3 at a time when consumers were looking for great value,” he said. “The PS3 was down in February two percent even with the launch of Killzone 2 — that’s months of year-over-year declines. Xbox continues to head north while the PS3 is heading south. We’re gaining share.”
“But what we hear from our partners is that it’s not just PS3, it’s also PS2 down 62 percent year over year,” he continued. “With that business declining, and with the PS3 business declining, it’s been described to me as hemorrhaging at retail right now, and it just keeps getting worse.
“What we’re finding in our research is that a large portion of the volume we’re driving with Xbox 360 purchasers is actually PS2 owners choosing Xbox for the next generation. We’re switching people from the PlayStation brand over to the Xbox brand.”
WOW, you saw that? He’s no arrogant at all? And why speak good of our product when we can put all our forces bashing competition?
Listen very old guy, if you have my age so you passed by all consoles, you saw companies coming and going, you know Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony’s business.
What is happening now isn’t a lession to anyone, Microsoft played safe and dangerously, they launched a half-baked console that costed them the minimum 1 billion dollars, EVERYONE I know had at least 1 console that broke, some had 2,3 and I know a guy that had SEVEN X360 consoles, can your little brain process what that does really means?
I’m not a Microsoft fan, never was, they are as arrogant as anyone can be in this industry and they don’t have nothing to back it up, bribes, lot’s of money to spend and a fantastic marketing machine it’s what Microsoft really is, they don’t take risks, they made nothing new for the industry, they just promote and pay for everything they can.
Nintando is other world now, they are smarter than Microsoft and Sony together, they don’t loose their time talking about their competition, they make good toys and don’t need all the online and next-gen features to sell many more millions, Sony took a big risk, as they took with PS1 and PS2, they launched a console ahead of it’s time, full featured and easily to upgrade, the cost of such a decision is evident for Sony and the consumers, but if history is something to go by I would say Sony isn’t stupid, they are selling nothing bad considering the price of the console (US is not the center of the world you knew?) and they have time at their favor, Games are already better on PS3, it has a next-gen optical drive, and it’s of an amazing hardware quality, the price will drop, it’s natural, and when PS3 is at €/$250 or even €/$300 with all it’s features, better games, better exclusives and more 7 yeas of life span what you think will happen? They will sell many millions, if Microsoft or Nintendo sell as many will matter nothing to Sony, what really matters is the sales in the end. And let’s not forget that the Playstation Brand is outselling EVERY month the Xbox brand, do you really believe Sony is in trouble?
This consoles generation is the BEST console generation ever, we have 3 different and GOOD system in the market, I can’t believe any gamer don’t want to have all 3 of them, the casual market is a 200.000.000 market, all three system have a bright future ahead, and I don’t believe PS3 will at the end of this generation be seen as a failure but only has a fantastic success, has Wii and X360.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 6:03 am
I love you fan boys. I’m sure the heads at Sony and Microsoft appreciate all the bashing you do. This console “war” doesnt matter look at the Wii it sucks and it moves more shit in a month than both Sony and MS. Playstation isn’t going to dissapear being third doesnt mean you have to close your doors. Shut up and play solitear.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 6:10 am
eman3d…if anything, you sound like a really estatic 360 fanboy. I’m pretty sure you must have had a major orgasm over those NPD numbers didn’t you?
OH LORDIE, SONY DOOOOOOOM3D!!!!!1111111 :O
WHATEVER SHALL THE PS3 FANBOYS DO?!
PS3 fans hyped Killzone 2 because it’s an excellent game, not because of the sales.
I hype games because of what I’ve seen and played, not for the sake of sales.
I find it amusing that people are having orgasms over two days of sales!
If March comes and Killzone 2 does nothing, then you can have your moment of gloating and beating your chest like a gorilla.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 6:19 am
ffs you two dont half wittle on about nothing. Its so obviously hit a raw nerve this article that you just cant let it go. Maybe you both got the day off school or something…. what ever the case post somewhere else

PS3 403,000
That isn’t 2:1
Oooohh… Xbox 360 is cheap and pirate. That is goo bussines.

I just clicked in this site to just read the article, but first comment crabbed my attention , I don’t see why you people reason with eman3d,you calling peoples fanboys ,yet you don’t see how dumb you are, Sony is doing great with the current price, you sir does not look at the complete picture ,you and the other so called journalists who has been trolling forums and sites since the Ps3 lunched
Sony outsold the X360 in 2007and in 2008 they were neck to neck in worldwide sales, USA is not the world, Ps3 is outselling the X360 in Japan and most of the world, go take a class in how to talk to people and reason with them, (calling people the ultimate fanboy is good enough for people to ignore the likes of you).
Peace
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 6:42 am
@PS3 fanboys
Will you guys stop with USA not being the world. The only place ps3 is outselling 360 is in japan, and well thats japan who cares what they do? strange little weirdos. Anyways please get your facts straight before you ramble on, outside the America, outside Japan, the 360 still sells more than the ps3.
Get the facts.
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 7:37 am
Anyone who thinks 323000 copies in 2 days is unimpressive is a douche fanboy who tries to make a point without telling the whole story. Even the Microsoft dude was a tool. Lost and damned would have outsold Killzone 2 if we had the numbers to prove it…” uh what? It was out like two weeks before KZ2. Ding Dongs… I don’t care much for the whole fanboy thing. I think it takes sales away from consoles and that hurts competition, which slows progress. No competition means “why advance now when we can rest on our laurels?”

Sorry, I forgot about the racist.
I wonder were are the smart Americans, yes, because there are a lot of them, but the rotten part is so “loud” in the Internet that they tint all the country with their amazing ignorance and hatred.
Let the good Americans talk ok, you’re just a shame to your country.

in america the Wii Outsold 360…
America only buy CRAP
Playstation 3 is too much Quality and Elegance for Americans.
Only Smart People buy PS3.
“IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE…” WTF?
A Ferrari at 80k doallar is expensive?
Same Ferrari at 70K is Expensive?
PS3 is a Ferrari at 70.000US, Xbox is a Toyota at 60.000.
“Most expensive” LOL

I’m American. Don’t know if I’m considered smart or not but I think there are a bunch of non-American people on here bashing the loudmouth Americans who are themselves loudmouths. Because if you weren’t one, you’d just let the “ugly Americans” make themselves look more and more stupid all by themselves. All they have to do is open their mouths– uh fingers… yeah. Oh and I own a PS3. It rocks. It looks sweet. Performs sweeter. Games are here and more are on the way. I want the 360 to do well to push Sony and Nintendo. I want Sony and Nintendo to do well to push Microsoft. Hell, bring in an upstart company with a wild new system. All the while I’m sittin back smiling at all the advances to come and I will play some sweet games over the next few years. Hells yeah.

@ 360 Fanboys
Most of you are just trying to throw jabs in at us. Two of you are backing up what you say. I’m not going to lie… You TWO are speaking the truth, and backing up your pathetic little console well. I hate to admit it but I’m not in denial here. Most of your fanbase can’t argue facts… aka 12 year olds. While our fans our much more mature than Xbox fans, you have the advantage of numbers. You’re console and games sell well.
@ Fellow PS3 Fanboys
While I pretty much agree with all of you brave souls who have commented above, there is no doubt that we need a better PS3 rep here. No one here (yet) seems to capable of writing up a descent arguement to eman3d or doc. I know I can’t. I don’t have the facts to do it. DO NOT defend our console if you can’t argue facts. You’re making us look bad here
While it does piss me off that 360 fans keep using the Killzone 2 sales against us (only out for 2 days.. duh!), its first-day sales don’t even compare with the 360’s lame-ass games. Gears of War 2 sold like a million and a half in one day. WTF? And I don’t even want to bring up Halo. Am I the only one who supports my console here? Start buying games for your PS3! I do! We’ve got better games than the 360. But I can’t use that as an argument if my console isn’t earning game-developers very much money.
** 360 Hardware is Microsoft’s has been Microsoft’s biggest downfall. But Jasper fixed that in 2008. On a technical level, however, the PS3 pwns the 360.
** Numbers have been the PS3’s biggest problem as of late 2008/early 2009. I’m tired of arguing with Gay-box Fanboys if SCEA isn’t worth defending.
CONCLUSION: BUY GAMES FOR THE PS3. AND DON’T ARGUE FOR THE PS3 UNLESS…. YOU CAN ARGUE FOR THE PS3! USE FACTS. ECSPECIALLY SINCE WE’RE CURRENTLY IN LAST PLACE (emphasis on *currently* cause this war ain’t over!)

@ Codename V
From what I can see (read) from your comment you’re a smart one, maybe there’s still some hope.

all emand or whatever speaks to me is fanboy thinks sony stumbled on ps1 and ps2 ect wtf theyve been doing this for years and know what there doing wait for the price drop and the exclusives and consider ps3 has a higher price point and the 360 launched over 1 1/2 years before it the ps3 is selling as it should with the software and consoles are to follow

@ Sanzee
Sanzee, you sound like a level headed adult. Good post. I am not here to get fanboys upset, that’s silly. Let me explain what happened. Shadowolf and i are pretty good friends and he along with the ’so-called’ millions of PS3 fanboys were hyping up KillZone 2 as the best FPS EVER!!!! They were being very disrespectful to Gears and Halo saying KillZone 2 blows those games away. In other words, PS3 fanboys are just like Sony- they do not respect the competition! They try to justify everything Sony does instead of telling the truth- Sony f’d up. As you said, and as i say- NUMBERS DON’T LIE but fanboys choose to ignore this simple fact which proves further how much fanboyish they truly are. How can you be happy with 335,000 copies in 2 days when Gears 2 sold 1.4 million in ONE DAY???!!! Are these guys retarded??? It’s simple math, and like you said, we won’t even bring up Halo numbers. Sometimes the truth hurts yet instead of finding an answer PS3 fanboys choose to create excuses instead of answers or get emotional like little school girls. In closing, i ask all you PS3 fanboys one simple question: When will Sony create a game that will produce sales of a million plus in one day???? I know this is a HARD question for PS3 fanboys because all the games they thought were AMAZING have not done this. When you come up with an excuse… i mean answer let me know.

Eman3d - are you mentally retarded? In case you can’t read - Killzone 2 only came out at the VERY END of February - so it hardly had a lot of time to move systems. Also - it’s funny how you say the 360 didn’t have a killer app for february - because you’d better get used to saying the same thing for every month for the rest of this year. The 360’s exclusive lineup is pathetic and that is nobody’s fault but Microsofts.
Also - you’re right - NUMBERS DON’T LIE. So here’s some fact’s to chew on:
The installed base of the 360 is nearly double that of the PS3 in the US - however Street Fighter IV sold nearly the same number of copies on both systems - meaning a far GREATER (That’s more you moron.) percentage of PS3 owners purchased Street Fighter IV as opposed to 360 owners.
The price of the 360 is half that of the PS3 - assuming the two systems were equal (Obviously they’re not.) the 360 should have been able to sell TWICE as many hardware units as the PS3 - it didn’t come close. The difference between the two was a little over 100,000 - that is AWFUL……….for Microsoft, i mean.
The 360 is cheaper then the Nintendo Wii but get’s outsold by it in all corners of the globe.
The 360 is the cheapest console on the market in Japan but put’s up record - low numbers for both hardware AND software in the region.
Halo Wars was a complete flop compared to Killzone 2 in the sales department - despite people saying it was gonna be “DA BESTEST RROD GAME EVA!!!”.
You need to do some research on the gaming industry to avoid making yourself out to be an inbred moron in the future and Microsoft might want to think about how they’re gonna shift systems when they’re all out of price cuts…..LOL!
Posted on March 20th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
Also - Eman3d - you want to talk about Halo and Gears numbers??? Try comparing the sales of those franchises to Gran turismo - a SONY franchise you freaking retard! How can Microsoft fanboys be happy with Galo 3’s PATHETIC 9 million number when Gran Turismo 4 sold 12 million??? When you come up with an excuse…..i mean reason……let me know.
It’s entirely obvious that you have absolutely NO knowledge of the videogame industry whatsoever………trolls like you should be banned. Now all you’re doing is showing everyone who read your post why it’s a bad idea to marry your cousin!

@ David Macphail
You sound like a girl. Calling me names on a blog?? Yeah you must be a girl. Anyway Halo Wars sold a million copies dude, did you not know that? You know what your not worth debating. Get your facts together and stop ranting like a female and learn to address people properly. When you get past puberty talk to me.

While Killzone 2 was on sale for “only 2 days”… this figure does include all the pre-sales presumably….
i own all three consoles… yet I have virtually stopped buying Wii titles (nothing much of interest in recent months); rarely buy a PS3 title (I have tried all the titles with highest ratings, Metal Gear Solid, Little Big Planet… but they did not become favorites. Killzone 2 would interest me more if I had not been playing so many similar games on the 360). So, strictly by personal choice and no fanboy bias, I tend to prefer 360 games with DLC — at least for now and the foreseeable future.
I am still immersed in Fallout 3 (with two more DLC segments to come); have Fable 2’s DLC on the backburner, and, of course, GTA4’s DLC is something special.

Hello Commentator, glad you joined the discussion. You are definitely entitled to your preferable console and games of choice. Glad to hear you are enjoying yourself with Fallout 3, a great title indeed. Welcome!

@ Commentator
You pretty much summed up why, at this point, the Xbox 360 , is outperforming the PS3. The games are entertaining and long lasting with DLC and it is the home of FPS. What’s really exciting is that Microsoft is waiting for E3 to announce their new games for the 09′ holiday season. Get ready.

Eman3d - it must be pretty embarssing for you to get owned on a blog by a girl who evidently knows more about the videogame industry than you do, eh?
Actually….i’m a male - girls would probably take pity on your ignorance and stupidity - as far as i’m concerned you can go jump in a lake.
I see you were unable to respond to ANY of the facts i laid out in front of you…….by continuing to debate you’re just embarassing yourself. Respond to my statements properly or don’t respond at all.

Nick I’m sorry to hear that. Is it still down for you?
Posted on March 21st, 2009 at 11:23 am
Gears 2 was going off of the momentum of Gears 1. Killzone 2 didn’t have that luxury since Killzone 1 was definitely not Gears 1 in terms of quality, agreed? Just sayin… I would be curious to know how many copies of Gears 1 moved in 2 days.

[...] Sony released there mouth-dropping first person shooter exclusive, KILLZONE 2 which according to NPD reports registered 323,ooo copies sold in 2 days in the US alone. Most multiplatform titles are [...]
