PS3 & 360: Are The Gaming Experiences The Same?

As users of both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 enjoy their respective platform of choice, it has become apparent today that it is harder to argue which platform offers the better gaming experience. Just recently as I visited a local Gamestop looking around for a different game for both my Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, I realized that it was rather difficult to see a distinction between the two platform game offerings.
Of course their will always be a preference for which controller a user is more accustomed towards or which gaming interface more suits the need for a particular user however, I decided to play devils advocate with the store clerk so I explained that I owned both systems and was looking for something unique from both systems. I must state that many times, Gamestop clerks have been known to favor one system over the next however on this particular day I was in luck as this individual displayed a serious understanding of the gaming industry and approached my concerns in an unbiased fashion, again this was a rare occurrence, so I milked it.
This particular store clerk explained that both systems primarily offer the same gaming experience when it comes to multiplatform titles. From the graphics to the gameplay or whether you are into trophies or achievements it’s all the same. When asked about the online offerings they stated that even though XboxLIVE offered a few more capabilities than the Playstation Network, Playstation Home was also a free additive to the playstation that adds to the argument so in this clerks opinion the online offerings cancelled each other out.
As I thought about the reponses from this store clerk I realized that they were right. Ultimately it was explained that the true difference lies in the exclusive content. This seemed to be the resounding pulse of this particular Gamestop and interestingly enough, a platform side was never taken by this store clerk or their associates. A rare day indeed. I finally decided to pick up Halo Wars which is an Xbox360 exclusive. I also picked up Motorstrom: Pacific Rift and I recently ordered Demon Souls online which is also a Playstation 3 exclusive.
Outside of all the other great features by these two powerhouses such as Blu-ray playback and NetFlix, when it comes to the simple enjoyment of just playing games, the real differences lie in the exclusive content of a particular platform. Playstation ThEvolution wonders if this holds true for most gamers.
Do you all believe the the gaming experiences are the same today? Please explain.
