We all knew Infinity Wards sequel to the 2007 Game Of The Year would have massive success, but when we heard GameStop executives claiming that Modern Warfare 2 is the single most pre-ordered title in the specialty retailer’s history, we began to understand why so many titles have jumped ship for a more convenient 2010 launch.

According to a recent conversation with USA Today, GameStop executive vice president merchandising and marketing Tony Bartel explained Modern Warfare 2 pre-order success.

“By all indicators, we anticipate Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be the biggest entertainment launch of all time,” says Tony Bartel, executive vice president for merchandising and marketing at GameStop. “As of today, the number of pre-order reservations we’ve taken for the game is the highest for any title we’ve ever sold in our 6,200 store network.”

The article also points out that GameStop is one of several retailers planning a mid-night launch for the games highly anticipated release. Some 2,600 Wal-mart stores will also be offering Modern Warfare 2 at 12:01am.
