KILLZONE 2 Receiving The Credit It Deserves
With many FPS fans puzzled by the absence of KILLZONE 2 as a Game Of The Year nominee at the recent VGA’s, it seemed quite apparent that our beloved video game industry has become a popularity contest fueled by hype. With so many influential video game networks and individuals on VGA’s panel of voters, it’s truly difficult - if not impossible - to know who voted for what game. However, we are now beginning to see the cream rise to the top.
In particular, GameSpot recently conducted their best of 2009 awards and many KILLZONE 2 enthusiast were excited to find out that despite the gargantuan sales generated by Infinity Wards Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it was Guerrilla Games’ technical marvel that received Best Competitive Multiplayer Game Of 2009. On another note, IGN has also conducted their best of 2009 awards and KILLZONE 2 might just be their overall shooter of the year.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is, of course, a multiplatform title which IGN awarded as the best Xbox 360 shooter of the year while awarding KILLZONE 2 as the best PS3 shooter of the year. Without stating that KILLZONE 2 is the best shooter across all platforms in 2009, it seems IGN in order to avoid an obvious flame war, divided their awards to make it platform specific, this way everyone wins and you don’t feel like you’ve been cheated. Gamers are so sensitive and yes, I am definitely including myself. Regardless, come January 13th IGN will be announcing their overall winners so it should be interesting.
As gamers, when you experience a game that takes you on an action-packed single player thrill ride with eye popping visuals which then introduces you to a robust and addicting competitive multiplayer mode which can definitely seem intimidating, it becomes extremely gratifying when these games receive the credit they deserve.

I can’t believe I was sooo stupid to buy CoD 5 instead of KZ2, WHAT WAS I THINKIN?!!??!
It is impossible to get the last two trophies!!! The ones where you have to complete the last two levels on the impossible mode (veteran), NOW I CAN NEVER GET THE PLATINUM TROPHY!!!!!

killzone 2 is the best game of 2009 . no other game is close to killzone 2 on a technological level and it did different things that werent done before in the fps formula. there were a lot of good games in 2009 but the games that were game of the year contenders were all on the ps3 . killzone 2 has a good story and aside from that its technical achievements are unmatched , especially if the games are not exclusive to the ps3 or multiplatform titles.

well certainly Killzone 2 has more realism than MW2. To each its own, but I personally give the edge to Killzone 2 for the sheer amount of detail their weapons went through. Unlike MW2 you cant snipe with every gun in the game, and the recoil and effects are top of the line. MW2 feels like your a floating UFO

killzone is a much more thought out game and its shows. MW2 was made hastily by iw so they could cash in on all those who loved cod4 mw2 is dissapointing to say the least killzone wins anyday

Killzone 2 actually had players work together to achieve victory, and you didn’t give a shit about your KD ratio. In MW2 (great game, mind you) it’s kinda everyone for himself.
I’m glad to see my favorite shooter getting what it deserves!

@ EvGar, you make an interesting point. Of course taking nothing from MW2 as a top-notch shooter however, your comment about players not being overly concerned with their KD (Kill/Death) ratio in KZ2 is definitely spot on. Again we all like to accumulate as many kills as possible for ourselves but KZ2 created an experience that really promoted team work. I can recall countless games where I could careless about getting a ton of kills while trying to assist teammates on mission objectives. As a personal preference I believe the ability to cloat as a sniper is insane. Giving sniper support to your teammates from a high position as they would cross one of the three bridges on the Pyrrhus map is definitely unforgettable as well.

Killzone 2 was definetly the standout FPS game this year. There was no other game in the genre that came close to it.

I agree with your thinking and excellent writing. Killzone 2 is my favorite game of all time, and I love to see it get the recognition it deserves. I love the multiplayer, and it is my favorite multiplayer of all time. I still play it avidly today.

ANYONE WHO SEZ THIS GAME IS SH*T! IS A WASTEMAN!! JUST LOOK AT HOW MUCH DETAIL THERE IS IN ABSOLUTELY EVERY SINGLE SCREENSHOT OF THE GAME!! INCLUDING THE MAIN MENU AND START MENU AND PAUSE MENU ETC!!
