Based on the recent quarterly results the PS3 continues to spread its wings as sales are reporting a significant increase over last years numbers, unfortunately little brother PSP has not been so fortunate.

During Qtr 3 - 2009, more than 6.5 million PS3’s were sold in comparison to the 4.5 million PS3’s sold just last year. This is largely due in part to the much needed September price drop. However, both the PSP and PS2 sales have experienced bit of a dip in sales. With probably the longest successful console run known to man, the PS2 should definitely get a pass as it has been around for more than a decade and we’re still reporting on it’s sales numbers.

The PSP sales which reported 5.1 million during Qtr 3 - 2008 are down in comparison at 4.2 million Qtr 3 - 2009.

As a business Sony is profitable for the first quarter and despite the lackluster sales of the PSP, Sony’s gaming division is at break-even due to the strong outing of the PS3 sales.
