Playstation ‘MOVE’ Motion Controller Bringing A Whole New Experience To PS3

Sony Computer Entertainment recently announced that the new PlayStation Move motion controller for the PlayStation 3 launches worldwide this fall, offering a motion-based, high-definition gaming experience unlike anything on the market. Concurrently with its launch, SCE will also release PlayStation Move sub-controller to be used along with the motion controller for intuitive navigation of in-game characters and objects. The PlayStation Move platform, including the motion controller, sub-controller, and PlayStation Eye camera, together with a strong lineup of software titles, will deliver an innovative and highly immersive experience on the PS3 system.
The combination of the PS3 system and PlayStation Eye camera detects the precise movement, angle, and absolute position in 3D space of PlayStation Move motion controller, allowing users to intuitively play the game as if they themselves are within the game. PlayStation Move motion controller delivers unmatched accuracy through its advanced motion sensors, including a three-axis gyroscope, a three-axis accelerometer, and a terrestrial magnetic field sensor, as well as a color-changing sphere that is tracked by PlayStation Eye camera. Through PlayStation Move system, both fast and subtle motion can be detected, whether the user is swinging a tennis racket, or painting with a brush. With PlayStation Move motion controller, users can provide direct input through action buttons and an analog trigger, while receiving physical feedback from rumble functionality and visual feedback from the sphere’s ability to display a variety of different colors. Furthermore, PlayStation Eye camera can capture the player’s voice or image, enabling augmented reality experiences.
The newly announced PlayStation Move sub-controller is a one-handed controller, developed to further expand the game play options that PlayStation Move games can offer. PlayStation Move sub-controller features a sleek curved design that pairs with the motion controller and comes with an analog stick and directional buttons that allow users to easily control the game when moving characters or choosing a direction. Like all other Wireless Controllers for the PS3 system, it comes with a built in lithium-ion rechargeable battery as well as Bluetooth technology, enabling the controller to transfer the input information wirelessly to the PS3 system without a cable. PlayStation Move motion controller and sub-controller will further broaden the gaming experience on the PS3 system for all genres, from games that use one motion controller to games that use both controllers.

PRINCE OF PERSIA: The Forgotten Sands All-New Gameplay Annoucement Trailer
Here at Thevolution our fingers are definitely crossed in hopes that Ubisoft can deliver an engaging if not epic experience with their upcoming action adventure Prince Of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. Let’s be honest people, whenever a video game is licensed with a movie our spider senses begin to tingle because we have been burned countless time by movie licensed video games that our forced to endure rushed development windows and the end results have been extremely underwhelming.
However, in light of all the movie licensed video game blunders, the Prince Of Persia titles of the past have been over-the-top entertaining, so no more doom and gloom talk, here to hoping for the best.
PS3 Will Win Current Hardware Generation Says Analyts

With predictions of lifetime sales reaching 127 million sold PS3’s, David Mercer, analyst with Strategy Analytics has also laid claim that the black behemoth will not only reach this milestone but also outsell the competition along the way.
According to VideoGamer, A report titled “Taming the Waves: Games Console Life Cycles and Platform Competition,” David Mercer shed some light into his crystal ball of predictions;
“Nintendo has done a great job with the Wii in bringing console games to new audiences,” said Mercer. “But its sales are now falling, particularly in mature markets, and its installed base will peak in 2011. Ownership of both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 will hit their highest points between 2012 and 2014.”
Ultimately, Mercer predicts that the PS3 for it’s lifetime will reach 127 million units, compared to 103 million Wii units making the PS3 the worldwide leader for this generation of consoles.

BODYCOUNT: All-New FPS Shooter Coming To PS3

Set to rip apart the First Person Shooter and deliver genre-defining gun play that comes alive in an orgy of bullets and destruction, Codemasters today confirmed that Bodycount is the new IP in production at Codemasters Studios Guildford.
Designed by Creative Director Stuart Black (co-creator and designer of Black, 2006), Bodycount is being created by an all-star development team using the EGO Game Technology Platform, an evolution of Codemasters’ award-winning engine.
“Our core focus for Bodycount is to deliver best-in-class gun play that places the gamer at the heart of the experience,” said Executive Producer Tom Gillo. “From the jaw-dropping devastation caused by firing into enemies or shredding the world around you in a hail of bullets, Bodycount will crystallise that moment of pulling the trigger into an exhilarating sensory overload of action.”
In Bodycount players become ensnared in a clandestine global power struggle as a powerful combat asset with a green-light to eliminate enemies known only as ‘Targets’ on behalf of the ‘Network’. Equipped with a mouth-watering selection of contemporary weapons, players and opponents tear through destructible cover to execute explosive kills in a shreddable world where operatives are encouraged to leave no witnesses. Complimented by online multiplayer and co-operative game modes, Bodycount will blast outrageous action and spectacular fire-fights from both barrels.
“We’re all massive FPS fans,” said Stuart Black, Creative Director on Bodycount “and believe that there’s room for a refresh of the shooter experience. If Race Driver: GRID was all about the purity of racing, then everything in Bodycount is absolutely centred on the bullet and its impact on the world. Our shredding tech enables us to create a different kind of gameplay, where players and AI can’t hide behind indestructible cover and rely on whack-a-mole mechanics. Here the environment is constantly changing as the game world is shot to hell; it’s going to be a huge amount of fun.”
Bodycount is being developed using the EGO Game Technology platform, evolved from the award winning EGO Engine. Enabling Codemasters development talent to share tools and technology across its Studios and Central Technology teams, the EGO Game Technology Platform empowers Codemasters game designers to realise their creative visions across multiple platforms featuring cutting edge graphics, powerful AI and advanced physics systems and integrated network play.
“By investing extensively in our people and tools, we have attracted an exciting team of development talent to Codemasters Studios Guildford, empowered with a mandate to create innovative, original games using award-winning technology,” said Gavin Cheshire, Vice President, Codemasters development. “As our first internally produced new IP for many years, Bodycount will deliver a fresh FPS experience powered by intense combat, compelling narrative, advanced AI and engaging online multiplayer game modes.”
3D Update Around The Corner For Your PS3
According to Sony, only an over the air update is needed to convert your PS3 into a fully capable 3D machine. What is necessary to enable this is an HDMI port and the cell processor which is already a go.
“Sony’s plans to upgrade existing PS3 consoles to 3D will provide a major boost to the 3D market during 2010,” commented David Mercer of Strategy Analytics
“This could quickly create a worldwide installed base of more than 30 million 3D-capable games consoles and confirm the PS3 as a platform positioned for the next generation of console games.”
Sony has already announced their new line-up of 3D enabled Bravia tv’s that are scheduled to ship later this year so as expected a new 3D firmware update is should be making it’s way to our homes sometime this year.

SPLINTER CELL Coming To PS3 In The Future?

With the next installment of the Splinter Cell gracing the Xbox 360 and PC in the form of Splinter Cell: Conviction this April, many have speculated that we might just see Sam Fisher once again on a Playstation platform. Well let’s not hold our breathe.
Recently, EDGE got some interesting feedback from Ubisoft Montreal’s Max Beland, Splinter Cell: Conviction Creative Director when asked about the future of the franchise on the PS3;
“I don’t see why it wouldn’t. I’m not involved in the business deals. I joined Splinter Cell after the exclusivity deal with Microsoft had already been signed, but there’s no reason why Splinter Cell couldn’t be on the PS3. Conviction? No because of the exclusivity deal. I know people keep talking about maybe, maybe not, [but] at Ubisoft Montreal I haven’t seen anyone working on PS3 for Conviction.
“[The next game] is open to new deals,” he added. “If Microsoft wants an exclusivity deal, they don’t call me, it’s Yves [Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO] dealing with the business people. But yeah, I guess we could even be a PS3 exclusive if there’s a deal that makes people happy there.”
As EDGE points out, unlike Microsoft who’s strategy has been to buy out timed exclusives while mainly focusing on 3rd party support to push their hardware, Sony plans to invest more in first-party development this generation as we can see in their recent acquiring of Media Molecule.
Rob Dyer, senior vice president of publisher relations at Sony Computer Entertainment America, speaks on first-party development and 3rd party support;
“They have very few first-party studios at Microsoft,” he said. “Bungie’s next Halo is the last one, Rare rarely puts out anything, you’ve got Peter Molyneux with his Fable stuff… but they don’t have first-party development studios inside at Redmond or anywhere for that matter. We do. So rather than putting their money behind that, they’ve been going to Epic or Valve or BioWare to do what they did with Mass Effect, and that’s where they throw their dollars. Candidly, we’re not going to compete with Microsoft on that front.”
